Bentley and ESRI technology work together in highly productive workflows tailored to users’ needs via the ProjectWise Connector for ArcGIS. This product supports user-initiated or event-driven interoperability with ESRI ArcSDE Geodatabases through an intelligent extract, modify, and post paradigm. Bentley users can retrieve information from a Geodatabase for viewing using the Connector, and when the Connector is used in conjunction with Bentley Map or other Bentley applications based on Bentley Map, the data can be edited. Engineers can use the information as a backdrop or source information for new projects, and they can modify existing information with updated, as-built information after the engineering project is completed.
The ArcGIS Connector supports true semantic interoperability. Features can be extracted from the Geodatabase into managed DGN files and used in design sessions. Domain constraints and rules are preserved in the extraction process and respected during feature creation or modification within Bentley applications. This is facilitated by Bentley’s XML Feature Modeling (XFM) technology that is inherent in virtually all Bentley GIS applications.
Administrative tools provided with the Connector allow configuration and management of extractions and posts, and configuration of the extensive capabilities of the Bentley Geospatial Server. Bentley Geospatial Server brings together information in spatial databases, drawings, business documents and other forms through a unique Federated Information Management approach. It can manage lifecycles from creation through approval. States, user roles, and valid workflows can be defined with ordered milestones through which a document or file makes its way to completion.
