Bentley Descartes is the only imaging product that is truly integrated with MicroStation. With Bentley Descartes, it is possible to “Attach/View,” “Edit,” “Transform/Geo-Refer ence,” and “Process” all raster data in a single application. Bentley Descartes can display most of the common industry raster file formats as well as data through WMS (Web Map Service). Raster Digital Elevation Model (DEM) can be displayed. Thematic display tools can display slope, elevation, and aspect using custom color displays. Raster saved in Oracle Spatial (called Georaster) can also be browsed, queried, attached, and displayed using Bentley Descartes. Bentley Descartes contains all the tools required to complete your engineering or mapping workflows on raster data. These tools include Paint, Erase, Remove Speckle, and Flood. More specialized tools are also available such as Local Transform, Move, Scale, Rotate, Mirror, and Warp. All of these operations can be done on 2D- and 3D-oriented rasters. Rasters can be transformed or geo-referenced with many tools in Bentley Descartes. The images can have linear transformations applied, such as Move, Scale, Rotate, or Mirror, or more complex adjustments can be made using the register and warp tools. These help fit the raster to a known set of control points using non-linear adjustment techniques. The Corridor Tool can be used to copy a piece of a raster, such as an aerial photograph, and register it to another area to support plan sheet plotting. Georeferenced imagery can also be transformed from one coordinate system to another using the geo-coordination tools. For hybrid raster-vector workflows, a complete set of tools are available to assist in the raster conversion process. Automatic line following, raster snap, character recognition, and bulk cleanup tools combine to speed the process of converting scanned raster imagery to vector elements. Bentley Descartes also contains tools to texture 3D shapes with image data. The tools can map an image or photograph to a shape, rectify it to fit the shape, adjust any edge points, and convert images to an Advanced Texture. The texturing tools help urban planners create realistic scenes from 3D models.
