ASTM International Standard Specification for Emulsified Coal-Tar Pitch (Mineral Colloid Type) (Withdrawn 2013) ASTM D3320-00(2004)e1

Description
This specification describes the test methods for and physical requirements of mineral-colloid-stab ilized, emulsified coal-tar pitch suitable for use as a weather-protective and aliphatic-solvent resistant coating over bituminous pavements of airports, parking areas, and driveways. The emulsion shall be made using tars having viscosities of RT-11 or higher, and the mineral filler (mineral colloids) shall consist of finely ground clay, silica, or other inert inorganic materials. And when specified, the emulsion shall be fortified with antifreeze. The properties for which coal-tar pitches shall be appropriately tested on and accordingly adhere to are: wet film continuity; freezing resistance; density; volatile matter content; residue by evaporation; volatilization resistance and residue weight loss; solubility of residue in CS2; ash content of residue; flammability; drying time and firm set; heat resistance; resistance to kerosene and water; and impact resistance before and after accelerated weathering.
