1.1 These test methods cover procedures for performing chemical and instrumental analyses of metallic core components used to fabricate nuclear fuel pins and fuel assemblies for the Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactors (LMFBR). 1.2 The analytical procedures appear in the following order: Sections Sampling and Sample Preparation 6 Chromium by Potentiometric Titration 7 to 15 Nickel by Gravimetry 16 Carbon by Combustion and Gas Chromatography 17 Columbium, Tantalum, and Arsenic by X-ray Fluorescence 18 to 26 Spectrometry Trace Impurities by Optical Emission Spectrometry 27 to 35 Nitrogen by Distillation and Photometry 36 Nitrogen by Fusion and Gas Chromatography 37 Phosphorus by Spectrometry 38 Sulfur by Combustion and Iodometry 39 Carbon and Sulfur by Combustion and Infrared Spectrum- 40 to 48 etry Surface Chloride and Fluoride by Swab Test 49 to 57 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use.
