This document provides the technical basis for incorporation into ASME’s B31.8 Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems code (“B31.8”) requirements that can be used to identify and mitigate design and operational issues that if not addressed can lead to catastrophic failure of compressor station piping systems. It provides the basis for anticipated substantive technical improvement to B31.8 that address compressor station design, specifically fatigue issues in compressor station piping as well as capture current industry practices so that B31.8 can remain relevant.
