Overview
Pneumatic style clutches offer a simple method of adjusting the torque and provide more accurate torque control than mechanical torque limiters. Mechanical torque limiters typically vary +/- 10% but pneumatic clutches vary < 5%. The torque transmitted by the pneumatic clutch can be remotely adjusted for hard to access locations. Three-way type manual valves can be used to engage or disengage the clutch to meet the application needs.
Pneumatic torque limiters offer “In Flight” torque adjustability. This feature is used to overcome high starting torque requirements but allow a lower set torque once the process equipment is in production. Electronic solenoids can be used to engage or disengage the clutch on the fly without shutting down the rest of the process equipment. Pneumatic clutches can run faster and offer more flexibility than mechanical torque limiters.
The VOR, POR, PDC pneumatic clutches are sealed and plated to handle wash-down duty applications. The VOR clutch is a time proven product that has been around for decades. The POR clutch is available is six different sizes for a wide variety of applications. The PDC clutch is a “true disconnect” clutch that offers a complete torque disconnect when the air pressure is locked out.
Special designs and configurations with sprockets or couplings can be produced in short order.
