Alpha Diagnostic International, Inc. Discontinued Alternate Cat#5405, Mouse Anti-Sm Ig's (total (A+G+M) ELISA kit, Qualitative 5400

Description
Discontinued Alternate Cat#5405, Mouse Anti-Sm Ig's (total (A+G+M) ELISA kit, Qualitative General Information The Sm (Smith) is an autoantigen on a series of particles composed of RNA and protein. Unlike RNP, the Sm antigen is resistant to RNase, but partially sensitive to trypsin. It is also involved in the pathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Antibodies to Sm are found in 30% of patients with SLE. Two antibodies, anti-dsDNA and anti-Sm, appear to occur only in SLE. Others occur in a variety of autoimmune and mixed connective tissue diseases. Antibody to Sm antigen was originally called Smith (Sm) antigen. Sm antigen has been reported a non-histone nuclear protein composed of various polypeptides of different molecular weight, which include the range of proteins 26KD, 27KD and 13KD. The Sm antigen is participated in normal post-transcriptional , premessenger RNA processing to excise introns. Sm antigenicity has also been reported in both RNase and DNase resistant and partially resistant to tryptic digestion. Autoantibodies to Sm antigen have been determined as a diagnostic marker in SLE sera (15-30%). It is observed that IgG anti-Sm interrelates with Lupus disease activity and is useful in predicting exacerbation prognosis of SLE. It has also been reported in a study of clinical significance, that the frequency of lung fibrosis and pericarditis was significantly higher in patients with anti-Sm (IgG, IgA and IgM). ADI?s Sm ELISA kit is a rapid, specific and sensitive assay for the detection (qualitative) of autoantibodies to Sm in mouse serum. SpeciesReactivity Mouse Samples Serum. Plasma, Culture medium and other fluids may be adapted KitContents 1. Purified Sm Antigen Coated Microwells (1x8 strips, 12 strips or 96 wells) 54012. Mouse Anti-Sm negative Serum, control 1 ml 54023.
