Turcon® VL Seal® II
Turcon® VL Seal® II
Turcon® VL Seal® II is a unidirectional seal for reciprocating service and installation in SAE-AS4716 grooves. This gland standard provides hardware commonality and interchangeability not just with existing O-Ring solutions, but with a wealth of Turcon® seal types including VL Seal®, Plus Seal®, Wedgpak® and many other seal geometries Turcon® VL Seal® II is available in rod configuration only for limited AS4716 sizes. The Turcon® VL Seal® II is supplied with a standard O-ring and if required a Turcon® or Zurcon® Backup Rings to fit 1 or 2 Backup Widths per AS4716. Turcon® VL Seal® II is developed from the standard setting VL Seal® to further improve seal performance and reliability. As this, VL Seal® II combines legacy capabilities with new, patented features. - Angled seal back provides sealing width to adjust according to service pressure - Leading bullet nose protects the sealing edge during hardware assembly - Improved support and containment of the O-Ring. - When required, lubrication management Turcon® or Zurcon® Backup Rings to improve fluid management Turcon® VL Seal® II provides efficient sealing performance through high prestress and contact pressure against the rod surface and direct elastomer contact in the housing groove. The extended contact face with the O-Ring and the concave seal back, protects the O-ring from damage by keeping it in position and limiting movement under all working conditions. Dynamic sealing of Turcon® VL Seal® II is determined by the hydrodynamic properties of the seal. The shape of the seal edge reduces the amount of fluid travelling out with the rod during the forward stroke, while the seal face works together with the angled seal back to support fluid transport back into the system during the return stroke. The hydrodynamic properties ensure high sealing efficiency and even allows Turcon® VL Seal® II to be installed together with secondary seals or double-acting scrapers, with or without requiring fluid reservoir to ensure against pressure being trapped between the seals. Further, the properties of Turcon® VL Seal® II combines with the friction and wear performance of Turcon® materials to give excellent friction levels at all service pressures.
