The NBS-260 is a cryogenic noise standard for the 170.0-260.0 GHz frequency range, housed in a WR-4 waveguide. It provides an output noise temperature of 75.76 K with an accuracy of +0.68/-1.19 K, referenced at 628 mmHg and 293 K. The device uses a liquid nitrogen-cooled blackbody cavity with a precision horn at room temperature to minimize insertion loss and reflection uncertainty, enabling higher accuracy compared to conventional standards. An automatic nitrogen purge system eliminates the need for helium equipment. The system includes a water bath for temperature control, and supports up to three cavities per bath when located within 10 feet. Accessories include a wooden horn case, hoses, couplings, and cables.
The NBS-Series consists of calibration standards based on the primary fundamental physic constants of thermal noise and blackbody radiation. This provides the ultimate accuracy when measuring extremely low noise figures (noise temperatures). Simple, and versatile to use, the NBS-Series is an ideal solution for noise source calibrations, radiometer test references and low noise amplifier tests.
