Series A dV/dT filters are also designed to protect AC motors from the destructive effects of long-lead peak voltages. Depending on the turn-on time of the power semiconductors used in the inverter, size of the motor and cable length, these peak voltages can be extreme. Cable lengths as short as eight feet can result in motor peak voltages that exceed the rating of the motor's insulation system. Using the filter guarantees the motor terminal voltage will not exceed a 1.5 drive bus voltage up to a distance of 1000 feet between the drive and motor. In specific applications, the filter has provided excellent performance with cable runs up to 3000 feet.
