Fenn's Torin® clutch type spring coilers are designed for large wire applications and are designated as the W24 and W25 size machines. Wire with a diameter as large as 7/8 inches (19mm) can be coiled cold with greater speed using wire with higher tensile strength than that wound. Many springs previously requiring hot "roll printing" and grinding can be produced complete on a coiler by the use of cam operated motions. Tapered and barrel shaped springs which are difficult to hot wind are routine with the Torin process. Typical applications are in automotive suspension, farm and construction equipment, conveyor coils and comparable, large wire springs. Wire feed lengths are available up to 2560 inches (65 meters).
