Sheet Stretch Forming is commonly used by aircraft builders to manufacture fuselage skin sections from special aerospace aluminum alloy sheets. Cyril Bath sheet stretch forming presses are designed to be both accurate and efficient. Our in-house developed CNC control systems allow for excellent repeatability. In addition, our simulation software is a valuable aide in developing process programs. Custom press designs utilize both Fixed and Moving Die Tables, Straight or Curving Type Jaws, all with the Cyril Bath CNC Control Systems and Process Simulation Software. In the following pages, you will see an animation of VTL stretch press design, making a part and placing this part on to the aircraft. This animation will give the viewer a quick glimpse of the actual forming process on a Cyril Bath stretch press. Cyril Bath Company offers a diverse selection of versatile sheet stretch forming presses, with a variety of options. In addition to a combination transverse/longitudi nal VTL series press, we offer T-series (transverse) and L-series (longitudinal) presses as separate designs. All sheet press designs are available in custom configurations with tonnage ratings from 150 to 3000 tons. Our presses are custom engineered to meet specific requirements with regard to jaw width, distance between jaws, strokes, forming tonnage, and valuable options. The options most commonly requested on presses manufactured today are: traversing gantry bulldozer, auxiliary die tables, auxiliary extrusion jaws, auxiliary curving jaws (for very tight radius fuselage sheets), CNC programmable curving jaws, Edge Compensation System, and S3F Process Simulation Software. The CNC programmable curving jaws eliminate the long, tedious, manual setup that has been the past industry standard on sheet jaws. There is no longer a need for the operator to have to physically adjust the manually locked adjusting screws on each curving arm of the jaw assemblies. The operator programs the desired radius from the operator console and the jaws automatically curve to the selected curvature. For replacing the ancient, noisy drop hammers, the Cyril Bath Company has designed and manufactured a Stretch Draw press with a programmable vertical ram that can perform a coining operation of up to 60-strokes per minute. In addition to the drop hammer features, this press is also capable of performing various other stretch functions furnished on our more conventional sheet presses.
