Course overview: Global Positioning System (GPS) technology is becoming a commonly used tool for construction and maintenance. This course will provide the participant with a general understanding of GPS and the accuracy that can be obtained with this new technology. GPS is used for surveying, rough and fine grading, utility locations, excavation and grading, paving, and much more. In this course, the participant will learn what advantages are gained using this technology and how these advantages are transferred to government agencies and the end user. The understanding of GPS is essential to technicians when performing inspection and maintenance job functions. Training level: This training is recommended for the Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council levels I, II, III, and IV.
