Corrosion Protection Services
Service Detail from Hartchrom, Inc.
Hartchrom Inc. provides Hard Chromium plating services to a wide and diverse market adhering to specification AMS 2460. Hard chrome plating provides an excellent wear and erosion resistant coating that demonstrates a hardness of Rc 66 - 72. Post chrome surface finishing can also deliver exceptional lubricity, oil retention and release properties. Hartchrom can handle cylindrical part sizes up to 80 in. in diameter, 450 in. long and up to 35 tons. Flat plates and similar items up to 110 in. wide and 450 in. long can also be accommodated in one of our three large plating tanks. Both outside diameter (OD) and inside diameter (ID) plating can be easily handled in our facility.
Hartchrom Inc. offers Heavy Manganese Phosphate coating per MIL-DTL-16232 Rev. G. Manganese phosphate coatings provide excellent corrosion protection and reduce break-in wear of mating parts by eliminating metal to metal contact. The friable coating can be easily crushed when loads are applied at assembly. Both corrosion resistance and break-in properties can be enhanced with the use of supplemental treatments such as oil which is held by the granular structure of the coating in oil reservoirs on the coatings surface. Hartchrom's heavy manganese phosphate process has been approved for use by the U.S. Army. Hartchrom currently coats 10,000 to 20,000 parts for the Army annually under this specification with tank sizes of 4 ft. wide, 7 ft. long, 5 ft. deep and weights to 1 ton.
Hartchrom Inc. offers Dry Film Lubricant coating per MIL-PRF-46010. Dry film lubricant reduces friction and wear by preventing surface-to-surface contact between mating parts. Dry film offers excellent lubrication and corrosion protection properties and can withstand high temperatures in operation. The dry film is thermally cured after application of a layer thickness of 0.0002 in. to 0.0005 in., has a low coefficient of friction, very low shear strength and can withstand loads up to 250,000 psi. They are used for ease of disassembly of items with long service life, items where permanent lubrication is desired and where fretting and galling are a problem.
