3M 1170 Tape is a 1.5-inch square aluminum foil tape featuring a conductive pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive. The backing is made of deadsoft aluminum foil, which provides excellent electrical conductivity. The total thickness of the tape is 3.2 mil (0.081 mm), with a backing thickness of 2.0 mil (0.05 mm). It has a breaking strength of 20 lb/in (35 N/10mm) and an adhesion to steel of 35 oz/in (3.8 N/10mm). The tape exhibits low electrical resistance through the adhesive, measured at 0.010 ohm, and is recognized for its flame retardancy. This tape is suitable for applications requiring effective grounding and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, with typical shielding effectiveness ranging from 60dB to 75dB across frequencies from 30 MHz to 1 GHz. It is supplied on a removable liner for ease of handling and die-cutting, and is available in various widths and lengths, with a standard length of 18 yards.
