Lower frictional losses improve motor efficiency
Extended bearing service life
High temperature capability (>650ºF)
Compact design reduces bit-to-bend while maintaining high load capacity
Operates in oil- or water based muds, process fluid or contaminated lubricants
3M™ Hydrodynamic Thrust Bearings are designed for demanding electrical submersible pumps (ESPs). The bearing faces are separated by a fluid film, which minimizes wear and significantly decreases bearing frictional losses – improving motor efficiency and allowing higher ROP.
In electrical submersible pumps, thrust bearings are exposed to a number of challenging downhole conditions, including high shock loads, misalignment and abrasive lubrication. 3M™ Hydrodynamic Thrust Bearings are designed to minimize wear and frictional losses in order to increase available power to the bit – and achieve higher Rates of Penetration (ROP).
3M hydrodynamic thrust bearings are made of a high-strength ceramic material that resists abrasion, erosion and corrosion. The patented tilt-pad design self-aligns to absorb shock and equalize loads, and the solid ring configuration promotes hydrodynamics. A fluid film separates the moving parts and minimizes heat and abrasion, extending bearing life compared to fixed pad friction disks. This fluid film also significantly reduces frictional loss, which in turn improves the efficiency of the motor.
