The Microchip's SAM4CP16C is a Smart Metering platform based on a high performance 32-bit, dual core ARM Cortex-M4 RISC processor providing maximum speed of 120 MHz each, 1Mbytes of embedded Flash, 128 Kbytes of SRAM and on-chip cache. SAM4CP16C includes an advanced cryptographic engine and embeds a modem for G3-PLC power line communication. G3- PLC is an open standard technology supported by internationally recognized standards bodies and promoted by the G3-PLC Alliance. Representatives from the Smart Grid ecosystem such as leading utilities, meter manufacturers, system integrators, IT vendors, automotive companies and silicon providers constitute the G3-PLC Alliance.

Atmel G3-PLC modem implementation supports CENELEC, ARIB and FCC profiles. The SAM4CP16C's unique dual ARM Cortex-M4 architecture supports implementation of signal processing, application and communications firmware in independent partitions.
