High Strength, Chemically Resistant UV Coating -- UV18S

Master Bond UV18S is a new one component, high strength UV curable system with superb chemical resistance & flexibility for coating, sealing and bonding. It is a 100% reactive, mobile liquid at ambient temperatures which does not contain any solvents or other volatiles. When exposed to a source of UV light, Master Bond UV18S cures to form a durable, strong, flexible and highly chemically resistant system with excellent electrical insulation properties. Fastest cures are obtained with light sources emitting at a wave length of 250-365 nm. Shrinkage upon cure is substantially less than that of conventional UV systems. The cured coatings and adhesive/sealants can be used over the exceptionally wide temperature range of -80°F to 250°F. Unlike many other commercially available UV curable products, Master Bond UV18S is not oxygen inhibited and exhibits a desirably fast cure rate even in the presence of air. The superior performance profile of UV18S is due to its unique hydrophobic polymer backbone structure and its special free radical cure mechanism. Master Bond Polymer System UV18S features excellent chemical resistance to water, isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, acetone, MEK, etc. as well as up to 20% sulfuric acid, 20% sodium hydroxide and many other aggressive solvents. Compared to other UV curable systems water vapor permeability is also excellent. Master Bond UV18S can be cured in very short time periods, e.g. 1 minute or less, with various commercial UV lamps. A conventional 200 watt/inch medium pressure mercury lamp is recommended. Even with low intensity UV sources, cures can be obtained quickly. No solvents or other volatiles are released during the curing process. UV18 forms tough, durable bonds and seals. It adheres to a wide range of substates including glass, metals and plastics. The impact strength is excellent, gardner impact measurements exceed 320 inch lb. Properties of typical UV18S coatings are summarized in table #1. Storage stability of Master Bond UV18S is 6 months under the usual storage conditions in unopened containers.
