The Model 2320 and Bit-Driver is a board level communication
product fully compatible with IBM PC, XT, AT, or PC compatible computers.
Model 2320 offers one full duplex channel RS 232 asynchronous commu-
nications using fiber optic transmission medium. Because of fiber optics
technology , these boards provide electrical isolation, longer distance capability,
and other features unique to fiber optic signal transmission such as small
size, light weight, and complete electromagnetic freedom from the problems
of EMI/ RFI to its maximum operating range of up to 15000 ft. (5 Km).
The use of this board in a computer requires that a companion fiber optic
transceiver be located at the termination end of the fiber optic cable. In
essence, the electrical signal at the computer is converted to an optical signal
for transmission over the fiber optic cable. At the other end of the fiber optic
cable, a converter is required to convert the optical signal back to an electrical
signal. The bidirectional fiber optic communication link just described is trans-
parent to the user. All software programs written for a standard RS-232 wire
cable link will work equally well when the S.I.Tech fiber optic link is employed.
